CTU-Los Angeles has discovered the latest threat to our country that needs to be dealt with over a period of exactly 24 hours. Terrorist masterminds have been planning their next diabolical plot using LOLCats to send messages to their sleeper cells.

The target….Detroit. CTU-Los Angeles then springs into action, sort of. President Camacho faces the latest threat in the way we expect president on 24.

Back in LA, the new head of CTU decides that it’s time to bowl as we learn Jack Bauer has another brother. Will Dave get the Cheese Poppers or not? Dammit there are just too many tasty choices and not enough time.

Two key pieces of the puzzle were uncovered. First, there will be no Asian presidents on 24 anytime soon, the hot Terminator has a mean streak, and the new CTU Director took an hour to order at Chillie’s. That’s three, whatever.

Last week a token 24 love triangle emerged with the Vice President and the President’s wife. The big question about this is…who cast Chevy Chase as the VP?

There are some television shows that are so prolific, so amazing, so utterly daring that you would be an absolute imbecile to miss it. This isn’t really one of them, but we’d really like you to check it out anyway.

Will the Phoenix Suns benefit from the Shaq trade, will Hillary waterboard Gloria Steinem in her basement, can CTU LA and CTU Milwaukee put their differences behind them and work together to save Detroit? Find out the answer to at least one of these tonight on The Blogs.4Bauer 24 Writers-Strike Substitute.

Writers Strike May End, But 24 Won’t Return ‘Til 2009

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

One fallout of the Hollywood writers strike is that fans of Fox’s drama “24” have to wait until next January to see Jack Bauer again.

The network has committed to air a full season on consecutive weeks and had been planning to start last month. If it had started airing new episodes soon, the season finale would not have taken place until the summer, when TV networks rarely show their high-profile programs.

Even though eight episodes for this season had already been filmed before the beginning of the writers strike, producers would have had to ramp up production soon to complete the season.

For 24 fans, this means that we’ll actually get a continuous run of shows from start to finish. The problem is that we’ve got to wait until next year to see them.

Jack Bauer ends writers strike!

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

Moving one step closer to ending the 4-month-old strike, the board of the Writers Guild of America unanimously blessed this morning the tentative accord reached last week with the studios. – LA Times

Now I’m not saying that Jack Bauer used torture or violence to end the strike, but the writers strike went on for 4 months and ends within two weeks after his release from jail. You do the math.

Somewhere in a dank cave on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, Osama is laughing his ass off. Rumor has it that Season 7 will not air until winter of 2009.

As for the seventh season of Fox’s 24 — well, who knows? Eight episodes are already in the can. It could begin airing this fall, but more likely, Jack Bauer won’t be kicking bad-boy butt until the winter of 2009. – EW

Winter of 2009?

Until then you can read up on why Rebecca Dana over at The Wall Street Journal thinks that viewer ship declined during Season 6. Apparently it has to do with Bush’s dropping approval ratings, the NY Times (of course), but not the lack of blind rabid ninja monkeys on crack that somehow didn’t make it into the crap-ass writing of last season.  It’s an interesting read with a nice graphic that charts the fall of the house of Bauer.

Winter of 2009? Michael Scofield will have broken out of at least 3 more prisons by then and without Bush to blame for the low ratings, the writers may have to work in a slot for the ninja monkeys. On crack.

A 24 mini-season? Blerg.

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Worst. Rumor. Ever.

OK, not the worst, because that would be a rumor that Audrey was returning in Season 7 (sorry, Sally Jo!). But damn(it!) close.

Mike Ausiello over at TVGuide.com is reporting that one of the options being considered in how to air Season 7 is this:

Another, and much more controversial, scenario being bandied about involves taking the eight episodes currently in the can and creating a 10- to 14-episode mini-season to air in the fall. That would be followed by another 10- to 14-episode mini-season — featuring a completely different plot — during the second half of the season.

I mean, what?

First off, you’d have to change the title to 8 and then the second half mini-season to 10-14.

Look, there’s an adrenaline rush that goes along with watching 24. It would be utterly craptacular to get it going and then just pull the rug out after only eight hours.

As much as I hate the thought of having another year to go before hearing Jack yell, “Dammit!” in primetime again, I’d rather wait until next January for a full, 24-hour season.

Two mini-seasons would suck. Just totally, utterly and completely SUCK.

Look at that, you’ve really pissed off Curtis now (can dead people be pissed off?):

curtis.jpg

Look, they’re bringing back Tony Almeida from the dead and Jack’s on trial. There’s no way they’re wrapping that up satisfactorily in eight episodes, I don’t care what anyone says. Eight episodes that weren’t designed from Day 1 to be an eight-episode mini-season ARE NOT A MINI-SEASON. Period. End of sentence.
