BREAKING: There Will Be a Season 9

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

BREAKING NEWS: I got wind of this the other day, and was able to track down confirmation. There will be a Season 9 of 24!

Jack Bauer fans rejoice! There will be no silent clock for 24 at the end of the current season.

Original creators Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran have convinced Sutherland and many of the current cast to return for “at least one more season,” by promising their renewed involvement.

“We realize that our loyal fans have been somewhat dissatisfied with the direction the show has taken over the past seasons,” Surnow says, “and none of us want things to end on a low note.”

Keifer Sutherland spoke on the set during the filming of the last hours of the current season, saying, “This show has been terrific ride and Jack Bauer has been an amazing character to play. Originally, I was reluctant to continue, but after reading an outline of what Bob and Joel have in mind for season 9, I’m convinced that we can continue.”

As usual, there is tight security concerning the new plot line. However, citing the need to convince fans, Surnow did offer a teasing look at what is planned.

“Being accused of recycling plot lines and succumbing to political correctness made us realize that we would have to really push the envelope if we wanted to continue. I won’t offer details, but I will say that the new season places Jack and Agent Walker in the middle of a situation that will take them closer to the edge then they have ever been.”

Point/Counterpoint: Grandpa Bauer is a bad influence on Teri Bauer

Point: Jack Bauer is a bad influence on his grandchild
By: Grandpa Oscar

I’m a concerned grandparent who has been a fan of the show ’24′ from the start.  While I have enjoyed the years of senseless violence, I’m starting to wonder if it has negative consequences.  Take little Teri Bauer, Jack’s granddaughter.  I see that they are going to start spending more time together (in around 24 hours or so).  This worries me because of Jack’s history of violence against both terrorists and fellow family members (see Graem and Great Grandpa Bauer).

It should also be clear to Fox that Jack’s history of extreme violence has already impacted how Teri sees the world.  Just check out the picture she drew for Grandpa in episode 2 of this season.

If my grandchild drew a picture of her grandpa blowing the brains out of a cute blue stick figure, alarms would sound and Grandpa would not shoot people around the grand kids ever again.  I speak for most responsible adults when I say that Jack Bauer is not a good influence on Teri Bauer.  On a side note, Teri cannot draw for crap.

I’d also like to complain about this weather and my aching knees, but I have to take my Popular Science into the bathroom and have a bowel movement.  You know, they haven’t been the same since Korea.

A reporter in Fayetteville came up with a pretty funny hour of 24, either proving or disproving the need for a professional staff of scribes.

Here ’tis.

What if?

What if Surnow & Co. had had the idea for 24 way back in the early ’90s?

It was the days of clunky wireless phones, dial-up Internet connections, pagers and pay phones.

The good folks over at collegehumor.com decided that question was worth pursuing.

It’s pretty funny, dammit.
